With 5 players scoring in double digits, battle-scarred Couriers dump Titans, 96-78

Michael Juico led five players in double figures with 18 points as Wangs Basketball demolished AMA University, 96-78, on Monday at the start of the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.

The Couriers controlled the game throughout and posted its largest lead at 77-49 early in the fourth quarter.

“Maganda ang resulta ng pinaghirapan naming. The boys played well especially on defense,” said Wang’s Basketball coach Pablo Lucas.

“I though the boys also executed our plays very well.”

Mark Acosta scores 15 points, Rocky Acidre had 12 and Michael Miranda added 11. Jovet Mendoza had 10 and six rebounds.

Wangs Basketball shot 33 of 72 from the field (46 percent) to overcome their poor rebounding. AMA outrebounded Wangs Basketball, 56-46 but shot just 31 of 81 from the field.

Down 39-26 at the halftime break, the Titans tried to claw back in the second half but were visibly overmatched against their battle-scarred rivals.

Jesmar Subangan led all scorers with 22 points. Bobby Balucanag finished with 13 and Jawhar Purdy had 12 for the Titans, who committed 20 turnovers, seven more than the couriers.
