Tanduay escaped AMA Online Education, 99-93, Thursday in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Bong Quinto unloaded 12 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter, where the Rhum Masters held on after losing a 15-point lead, 61-46, in the third quarter. He also had five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Paul Sanga went 5-of-9 from threes to wound up with 22 markers, while Raphy Reyes added 16 to help Tanduay score back-to-back victories.
“I’m not satisfied because I believe we could give more. But hopefully, it served as a good experience for us. It’s good that we’re challenged for tougher battles ahead,” said Tanduay coach Lawrence Chongson.
The Rhum Masters shot 62 percent from the field in the game.
Jeron Teng got the Titans to as close as four, 92-88, with 1:05 remaining, but that proved to be his side’s last hurrah as Quinto nailed crucial freebies for Tanduay and set up Adrian Santos for the game-clinching layup with 17.2 seconds left.
Teng paced AMA with 26 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while PJ Barua got 25 markers, three dimes and two boards.
Unfortunately for AMA, their efforts were not enough as the Titans fell to their second straight loss.
