AMA Online Education got back to its winning ways after a 69-61 win over Jose Rizal University Monday in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
Jeron Teng poured 11 of his 31 points in the payoff period as he anchored the Titans’ fightback late. He also grabbed six rebounds.
New acquisition Gino Jumao-as added 12 markers and seven boards, while Jay-R Taganas registered a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds to snap AMA’s two-game losing skid.
The Titans battled back from a 52-47 deficit early in the fourth quarter and rode on Teng as they fired an 11-1 run to grab a 58-53 advantage with 5:50 to play.
AMA lost hold of the lead after Tey Teodoro went on a flurry, but eventually reclaimed the edge with an 11-2 finishing kick to secure the win.
“Nandoon yung composure ng team sa huli. Last three minutes, humabol pa yung kalaban pero sabi ko sa players, walang bibitaw. Must win talaga kami dito sa JRU,” said coach Mark Herrera.
Paolo Pontejos topped JRU with 19 points, but that wasn’t enough as the Heavy Bombers absorbed their first loss in three games.
