Tey Teodoro played a superb fourth quarter to propel Jose Rizal University to an 86-77 come-from-behind victory over Wangs Basketball to complete the playoff cast for the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup Tuesday at JCSGO Gym in Cubao.
The high-scoring guard took charge in the end game, pouring 17 of the Heavy Bombers’ 25-point fourth period to finish with 21 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
“He had the right timing when he took charge. I told him that with the game on the line, you have to get the ball. He’s a big time player,” coach Vergel Meneses said of Teodoro.
JRU battled back from a 12-point deficit, 44-32, in the second quarter and slowly got its act in the second half before Teodoro finished the game off dropping 15 of its last 17 markers.
Jhaps Bautista added 15 points, Ervin Grospe had 14 markers and three boards, while John Amboludto got 10 points and nine rebounds in the win.
The victory pushed the Heavy Bombers to an even 4-4 card, enough to book a seat in the quarterfinals as they own the tiebreaker against Batangas (3-5) due to the win-over-the-other rule.
Mark Montuano led Wangs (3-6) with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Rey Publico got 19 markers and eight boards in the loss.
