Redemption is the name of the game on Thursday when the 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup returns to its home base at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Fresh from its conference-opening loss to Flying V, Cignal HD seeks to bounce back and chalk one in the winning column as it braces for Tanduay in the 5 p.m. game.
And for coach Boyet Fernandez, he is hopeful that the Hawkeyes have learned their lessons from that past outing.
“Basically, we’re still a new team so medyo nagkakapaan pa kami, but hopefully, we can accelerate the process for we have to play another six games in three weeks. It’s tough but we will find a way,” he said.
Cignal is hoping to form a cohesive unit with Jason Perkins, Raymar Jose, and Pamboy Raymundo leading the fray.
Fernandez isn’t also discounting the threat of the Rhum Masters, saying, “Tanduay is a very strong team and they have a solid line-up, so we’ll have our hands full.”
In Tanduay’s part, coach Lawrence Chongson shared that his team, too, is aching for a vengeance, especially after Cignal booted his team out of the semifinals last conference.
“May talo na ang Cignal, so may panghuhugutan sila sa game namin bukas. Pero sila rin itong nag-eliminate sa amin doon sa semis ng nakaraang conference kaya meron din kaming axe to grind laban sa kanila. I would want nothing more than a payback in that game,” he said.
The Rhum Masters will trot out a virtually intact roster, with Jerwin Gaco, Lester Alvarez, and Jay-R Taganas leading the fight.
In the first game, last conference’s runner-up Racal Motors tests its new-look crew against a retooled AMA Online Education at 3 p.m.
The Alibaba will lean on Allan Mangahas, Roider Cabrera, and Mac Tallo as they tussle against the Titans crew bannered by Tey Teodoro, Renzo Subido, and Andre Paras.
