Zark’s Burger-Lyceum shook off its early struggles and clobbered Mila’s Lechon, 102-55, Thursday in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at Pasig Sports Center.
The Mighty Roasters stayed in step of the Jawbreakers in the first half thanks to their 42-percent shooting from the field, but restored order in the third frame and fired 23 unanswered points to cruise to the easy win.
“I was mad at the players at the start because we’re playing to their brand of basketball. That’s why I called two early timeouts to make sure that we’re in the right frame of mind,” said coach Topex Robinson.
From close 44-41 lead, Zark’s-Lyceum zoomed to decisive 67-41 advantage with 3:24 left in the third quarter, made easy by the Mighty Roasters’ pathetic showing in the second half.
“We don’t have control on how our opponents play. We always tell the players that no matter who we’re playing, we have to play at our best every time. If the opportunity is there to score, well keep on scoring,” he said.
“Basketball has been good to us and the only thing we can do is to respect the game. I just told them that they’re so lucky that they’re in this team that nurtures that kind of respect for the game.”
Mike Nzeusseu led Zark’s-Lyceum with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Jaycee Marcelino and Kim Cinco both poured 12 markers in the beatdown.
CJ Perez was held to a conference-low nine points, but also collected five boards, two assists, and a steal as he allowed the Jawbreakers substitutes to shine in the game with 55 bench points.
Ken Acibar led the league doormat Mila’s Lechon (0-4) with 16 points.
