Jerie Pingoy drilled three treys in the last two minutes to lead Akari-Adamson past Batangas-EAC, 89-79, Thursday in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The stocky defensive playmaker showed another facet of his game as he went 6-of-9 from three to carry the Falcons with his 23 points, eight assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
“That’s an advantage of Pingoy. He’s willing to take the big shots,” remarked coach Franz Pumaren as Akari-Adamson rose to 6-2.
Pingoy’s explosion came in handy for the Falcons in breaking the 78-all deadlock as his three straight triples gave his side a decisive 87-79 lead with 55.8 ticks remaining.
Jerrick Ahanmisi also picked up where he left off last game, this time going 3-of-6 from downtown to unleash 16 markers and three boards.
Jerom Lastimosa added 11 points, while Cameroonian big man Papi Sarr got 10 markers and six rebounds in the victory.
Cedric de Joya paced Batangas-EAC with 15 points and four rebounds, while Jerome Garcia had 13 markers and two boards.
The Generals incurred their third straight defeat to sink to a 1-7 card.
